Houseparty was a group video-chat app built for casual, drop-in hangouts with friends, plus in-call games. It peaked during lockdowns as a social, spontaneous alternative to scheduled calls.

The design favored playfulness and presence: a grid of friends' faces, frictionless room-joining, "in the house" availability cues, and integrated party games like trivia and drawing. Designers reference it for social-presence patterns, easy multi-party video layouts, and a youthful, colorful aesthetic that made joining feel effortless.
