Periscope was Twitter's live-streaming app, letting anyone broadcast in real time and viewers join, comment, and send tappable "hearts" as feedback. It served creators and audiences wanting raw, immediate video.

The interface popularized several live-stream patterns now standard everywhere: floating heart animations, live comment overlays on full-screen video, viewer counts, and replay browsing. It's a foundational reference for real-time social video UX and lightweight, in-the-moment audience interaction.
